Start an elevated command prompt (hint: right-click, run as administrator). <\/p>\n<p>2. At the prompt, type <b>diskpart<\/b> and press ENTER. DiskPart starts. <\/p>\n<p>3. At the <b>DISKPART&gt;<\/b> prompt, type <b>list disk<\/b> and press ENTER. Locate the disk that matches the characteristics of your USB drive. In this example, the USB drive can be identified by its size (usually smaller than the rated size of the disk) and is assigned as Disk 1. <\/p>\n<p>5. Type <b>select disk <i>n<\/i> <\/b>and press ENTER, where <i>n<\/i> is the appropriate disk number. All further actions will now target this disk. <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>DISKPART&gt; select disk <i>n<\/i> <\/p>\n<p>Disk <i>n<\/i> is now the selected disk.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>6. Type <b>clean<\/b> and press ENTER. The partition tables are zeroed out, putting the disk in an \u201cuninitialized\u201d state. <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>DISKPART&gt; clean <\/p>\n<p>DiskPart succeeded in cleaning the disk.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>7. Type <b>create partition primary<\/b> and press ENTER. <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>DISKPART&gt; create partition primary <\/p>\n<p>DiskPart succeeded in creating the specified partition.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>8. Type <b>list partition<\/b> and press ENTER. There should only be one partition. <br \/>Type <b>select partition 1<\/b> and press ENTER. Type <b>active<\/b> and press ENTER. This assigns the partition as bootable. <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>DISKPART&gt; active <\/p>\n<p>DiskPart marked the current partition as active.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>10. Type <b>format fs=ntfs quick<\/b> and press ENTER. This performs a quick format of the partition. <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>DISKPART&gt; format fs=ntfs quick <\/p>\n<p>100 percent completed <\/p>\n<p>DiskPart successfully formatted the volume.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>11. Type <b>assign<\/b> and press ENTER.
